A story circulates in the social media to the effect that former president, Maithripala Sirisena did not attend the February 4th Freedom Day celebrations because of the inconvenience he was put into by the president and prime minister security forces.

As mentioned in that piece of news, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena's vehicle has come to attend former minister Kabir Hasheem's daughter's wedding was stopped on the way by president's and prime
minister's security force and the president's security unit had told Mr. Maithripala Sirisena to walk it.

The former president's press unit has released an announcement in this connection and the announcement says that the news which has been broadcast that "The president's and prime minister's security units sent me by foot after dropping me halfway ... Maithri says as the reason to keep away from the celebrations" is false. It is further mentioned there that the president's security unit on no circumstances subjected former president to such inconvenience on that occasion. It further states that security units of president and prime minister are special units created with special training by experienced officers and that their professionalism is at a high level. It also states that no value would be given to news such as this by the tri-forces, police and security units and those who appreciate good morals of the media  which have been so broadcast with the motive of bringing disrepute to them causing inconvenience to Mr. Maithripala Sirisena ...  we as the press unit of the sixth executive president believe.
