Rumours about our workers .. false -- director of Angoda hospital
News circulating that employees of national institute of infectious diseases where patients suspicious of carrying the infectious corona virus have taken leave are retained and that its operation is problematic is false, director of the hospital Mr. Hasitha Aththanayaka has announced. He says that 71 patients entered within a week and that health ministry has provided medicine including other
necessities for treatment purposes.
necessities for treatment purposes.
This is what the hospital director expressed: " About 71 patients were admitted to national institute of infectious diseases this week on suspicion of having been infected with new corona virus. Only one of those persons was confirmed genuinely by Colombo institute of infectious diseases as infected by the virus. And the condition of the patient, a female, is turning for the better ... specialist doctors say. It actually is a victory we gained as a department. 9 patients are undergoing treatment at "A" 'Kalana' unit where these suspicious patients are being treated. With the Chinese lady who was confirmed as having been infected by the virus are 5 Sri Lankans while the others are foreign nationals.
Outside patients' department including clinics of other units, wards ... are functioning as usual. As various information is being broadcast across media, a drop in admittance of outside patients and patients being warded is to be observed. Even so, clinics are open for patients meant to be warded and outside patients. Even today, patients have attended treatment services at outside patients' unit. It must be said that doctors of the specialist board of doctors, nursing staff and paramedical and other physicians, the junior board of doctors, security services providing services on agreement and the staff are serving with great effort and dedication on behalf of the country. Services rendered by the junior staff must be valued by us. They attend to their duties with more dedication and interest without expecting any remuneration in return.
I make an appeal from everybody including the media ... during the past few days all forms of false information was circulated. It is not today or yesterday that these patients were looked after by the health services staff as such. This hospital has a history of about 200 years. When calamities such as this occured throughout history, these patients were looked after with great dedication at a time when health facilities were available as now. By now, the health ministry has provided us with all that is necessary such as medicine, safety clothing, tools and equipment. There is nothing we are short of. There is neither anything lacking in the staff either. We appeal not to make any announcements that would lead the public astray. Information could be obtained from sources available only from the government. If this board of staff was not encouraged at this time .. it would be difficult to maintain these services. These services are rendered amidst various problems of the staff. When their children attend the school, society show various forms of responses. We attend to these duties while bearing all this with disregard".
