Visa prohibited for Chinese nationals on arrival at Katunayaka!

Facilities available to Chinese nationals to secure immediate 'on arrival visas' to Sri Lanka at Katunayaka International Airport has been suspended from today (28. This facility was granted to Chinese nationals who visited Sri Lanka from China on a short visit with the motive of business matters and touring from January, 2019. According to that method it was not necessary to apply for
the visa in advance and the facility to secure the visa immediately from Sri Lanka was available after required documents were forwarded. This facility was offered for purposes of tourist promotion.

Whatever it is, according to what was reported yesterday was that a lady who arrived from Hubei province to Sri Lanka has contacted corona virus after which this decision was taken. As such, if Chinese nationals are to come to Sri Lanka in future, they would have to apply for visa in China itself and only the province from which they come and related information is scrutinised only that the visa would be issued, it was informed.

In the meantime, it was reported yesterday that flight passengers arriving at Katunayaka Airport would be examined on a common basis while flight passengers coming from China would be subjected to a special check in relation to corona virus. For this purpose, scan machines have been employed and a special place has been allotted for that purpose.

Apart from that, it was decided yesterday to totally prohibit relatives or comrades of flight passengers other than these passengers in entering Katunayaka Bandaranaike International Airport. Prior to this, relatives or friends were provided the opportunity of making a certain payment and gaining access and travelling upto a certain limit in the premises.
