Outstation buses plying across Balapitiya stops for 5 hours ... for fear of attack on day of final rites of three-wheel driver
Final rites of three-wheel driver who sustained serious injuries in the three-wheeler - private bus collision which occurred at Urawaththa in Ambalangoda was conducted on Friday 8th evening and as a result buses plying past Balapitiya town along the Colombo route was halted for a period close upon five hours by police.
The deceased in the above accident is the husband of Prasathi Romany who is under treatment at the
intensive care unit having sustained severe injuries and is 41 year old Radeepa Kumara de Silva, police said.

Ambalangoda police said that they took action to stop buses plying across Balapitiya on the Colombo - Galle route till funeral proceedings were over on suspicion that long-distance buses may come under attack. The aforesaid accident has occured last 2nd at Urawaththa in Ambalangoda in which instance both a mother and daughter lost their lives while the father who was warded and under treatment at Karapitiya hospital died. Until funeral activities were over, Ambalangoda police took action to see that peace prevailed in the process. As such, four members of the same family have lost their lives and further inquiries have been conducted, Ambalangoda police say.
