Final approval to appoint Sajith as Opposition Leader

According to the decision arrived at by the parliamentary committee of United National Party it was decided to appoint member of parliament Mr. Sajith Premadasa for the position of opposition leader.

The party division between UNP leader Ranil and Sajith has thus come to a finale. Subsequently general secretary of United National Party, Mr.

Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had forwarded the decision to the Speaker and it was announced that this recommended decision was accepted by the Speaker. as such, the new session of parliament would commence on forthcoming January 3rd, 2020 and after Hon. President delivers his Throne Speech, the parliament is scheduled to assemble at 1 pm the same day and the official announcement about Sajith being named for the position of opposition leader would be made.
