Boat topples when returning from musical show ... newly-wedded couple missing!

A young wedded couple had been to a musical show and had been going in a boat  across Maguru oya when it had toppled and the couple had disappeared in the process, Bulathsinghala police say.

This incident has taken place during early dawn yesterday the 23rd and it is M.D. Lionel (20) and
Hashini Saraditha (21) from Badureliya who had disappeared in this manner. This couple who disappeared had gone to watch a musical show in Ihala Welgama with seven others in the area where they were living and this mishap had occurred when going back home. Since the shortest route to Bulathsinghala Ihala Welgama from where they lived was across Maguran oya, they had come in a boat across the river to see the musical show, it was revealed at preliminary inquiries, police say. When the couple was going back home after watching the musical show at about one forty five early dawn and were coming to shore, the boat had got caught to a strong current in the middle of the river and the people inside the boat have become agitated and fallen into the river, police say.

On that occasion, the young man having seen his wife being carried away by the waters had made an attempt to rescue her, in which instance both of them had disappeared, police say. At the time they were going across Maguru ganga to watch the musical show there had not been much water there. However towards dawn when they were returning, its water level had risen; it was revealed from statements made by the others who saved their lives, a police officer said.

The husband and wife who disappeared in the incident were married just a few months ago and both of them had been employed at the same garment factory and for the facility of going to work, they had put up at the disappeared husband's brother's house on a temporary basic, a police officer mentioned further. People in the area, the police and the navy were engaged in search operations and police say that the waters have taken on a brownish hue as a result of the strong current in the river and because of the increase in water level, police say.
