4 including three foreigners dead from Southern expressway accident
As a result of an accident where a container lorry and a van collided at Kurundugahahethepma along Southern expressway route (E-10) last evening, a female, a Sri Lankan driver and three foreigners met with death. This accident took place when a van which came behind a container lorry at the Kurundugahahethepma collided at the inter-change at a distance of 62 kilometers along Southern expressway.
At the moment of the accident, a Sri Lankan driver and six Indian nationals were on their way from
Matara to Colombo. The said van has struck the lorry from behind when the container lorry had been moving at a speed of 25 kilometres. According to what Elpitiya police say, the van driver and four others were admitted to hospital and the driver of the van and two Indians had already passed away on admission to hospital. The other person has died after admission to hospital.

Persons who sustained injuries from the accident were all members of the same family who had arrived here from India on a sojourn here, it was revealed at preliminary investigations by police. There is a 44 year old Indian lady, her 18 year old son and a relative while her husband and ten year old daughter who sustained injuries were admitted to Karapitiya hospital for further treatment.
The 52 year old driver of the van is a resident of Wadduwa area, police said. What expressway police said was that the van had struck the container lorry from behind because the driver of the van has fallen asleep.
