Kiribathgoda thero supports politician for first time

It is quite well-known that Kiribathgoda Gnanananda thero who owns Shraddha Bauddha channel and who is a popular dharma speaker in Sri Lanka as well has avoided politicians throughout the past period. The thero has taken steps to conduct a ceremony at a temple minus politicians and if in case a politician happened to be present, he would avoid the occasion and instead present himself elsewhere. Whatever it is, it was reported yesterday that this policy had changed. 

On the occasion of a publication of the thero being launched yesterday, presidential candidate
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was present. On that occasion ven. thero has said:

Only if this country was a Sinhala Buddhist nation that all communities would be able to live in unity. Some leaders of this country today do not know the history. Therefore there is a tendency to bow down to foreign powers. As a person who is courageous and straghtforward, we should make Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa be victorious at the presidential election. If not there will not be a country left for us. It is for that reason this Mahavansha publication is bestowed to him." 

Pioneer of Mahamewuna Asapuwa  Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda thero made these comments by gifting the final volume of the series of the Mahavansha written in simple wording to presidential candidate Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Bhikkus from various parts of the island had been present on this occasion and the ceremony was conducted with Mahanayaka Dodampahala Chandrasiri Thero of Kalyana Vanshika Maha Nikaya presiding.
