Fake news of price-hike of wheat flour

Minister of finance Mangala Samaraweera has launched a prompt investigation regarding the creation of false news about wheat flour which actually directly affects the public and publicising it as true.

Today, this afternoon this news was published in media of the main stream including Lankadeepa.
What was mentioned by this information was that the price of a kilo of wheat flour has been raised by Prima Company with effect from midnight yesterday (14) and that it was notified to all agents around the island by Prima Company.

Bakery owners have said that with Prima wheat flour going up by Rs. 8.50 from midnight yesterday a kilo of Prima wheat flour would increase upto Rs. 104.50  and that parallel to it the prices of bakery production could rise in the process. That was the news item so published. Under such conditions president of all-island bakery owners' association Mr. N.K. Jayawardena has informed that the price of a pound of bread would be increased somewhere between Rs. 3 and 5 with effect from midnight today (15).

In this connection minister of finance Mangala Samaraweera has expressed his ideas this way: "This is an absolute lie ... a fake statement. To do something like that they should have the approval of the government and cost of living committee. It is a question as to who published such news without such approval being not given. If any vendor has increased the price in some way, they can be taken into custody. In the meantime consumer affairs state minister Buddhika Pathirana has informed that price of wheat flour which is an essential item can in no way be be increased in this manner and that something like this has been publicised by creating false news with the motive of making the public disgusted of the government in order to reap election advantages.

In the meantime president of bakery owners' association, Mr. N.K. Jayawardena who said that price of bread would be increased, once again said that he initially said that price of bread would be increased because Prima Company informed in the morning that the price had gone up. However as the company had informed in the afternoon that there is no price-hike of that manner and that it has been tried out because of a political necessity and that since it misfired had once again informed that the price would not be increased and therefore the association has no necessity to increase the price of bread.
