"Gotabhaya is someone who changed 4 regiments in the army after creating conflicts" -- Sarath Fonseka

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka dared to give out a description about Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's tenure at the army at a media briefing held yesterday. 

"Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has created a world record. The only officer in the world who kept on changing to 4 regiments. It was in the second turn he came into my Singha regiment. There he he faced an unpleasant experience. I am telling this because today he is talking about welfare of
humanistic rights. These are documented. When he went for training in Polonnaruwa Sud Kanda area forest during the time he was serving with a group of soldiers a soldier complained of a chest pain and then lied down on the ground. Mr. Gotabhaya was in charge of them. He had told others to drag him along the ground and he then kept on kicking the said soldier and went behind. When going a short distance the soldier died. After that the soldiers surrounded Mr. Gotabhaya and assaulted him. When he was so assaulted he ran away. For a month after that he did not report to work. When he went to the Nugegoda home the soldiers approached him there and assaulted him there too. Subsequently he did not turn up at Sinha regiment. 

From there he went to another regiment called 'Raja Rata Rifle'. There too he had got together into a clique with young officers and went on to create problems. During that time that regiment was dissolved because of an incident where another had shot a soldier. After that he switched over to Gajaba regiment. He was there as the second of General Wijaya Wimalaratna. At that time Mr. Gotabhaya formed a clique and prevented Wijaya Wimalaratna from giving orders. There thus was a big problem at that time. But now of course he says that "I am an associate of Wijaya Wimalaratna. 

I have been in the army for 40 years. Since I was in the army we know these these things well. He finally left to America after completing 20 years' service by leaving the army after being a lieutenant colonel. He is thus enjoying the pension due to a lieutenant colonel. After finishing 20 years he has not serve for even one day. He retired from service saying that he wishes to leave on personal grounds. According to what transpired in the war the deputy defence minister Ranjan Wijeyratna took a decision to bring Gotabhaya Rajapaksa before war crimes tribunal. 

During that time was a member of parliament. Gotabhaya and Mahinda had gone and met general Ranjan Wijeyratna and discussed this matter. According to information received, Gotabhaya has gone down on his knees to Ranjan Wijeyratna and is supposed to have made an appeal saying, 'Don't direct me before war crimes tribunal ... let me leave the army and resign'. Ranjan at that time has given submission to his request. Because he is ashamed to say it he now says that 'I resigned for personal reasons".
