After consenting to give university to estate ... Thondaman's support to Gotabhaya
Leader of Sri Lanka workers' congress, member of parliament, Arumugam Thondaman pledged his support to presidential candidate Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna for the forthcoming presidential election. He mentioned this at a media briefing held at Sri Lanka workers' congress headquarters in Hatton - Kotagala today (13).
Thondaman remarked that a discussion was held about 32 issues affecting estate workers with
presidential candidate of new democratic front Mr. Sajith Premadasa and presidential candidate of Sri Lanka people's front presidential candidate Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and according to the response received at the discussion referred to, after forwarding matters to the executive committee of his party it was decided that total support should be given to presidential candidate Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

32 issues including a university to the estates, a justified salary to workers in the estates, recruiting young men and women from the estate to government service, taking over estate hospitals to the state, settling the housing problem of estate workers and granting ownership deeds and lands due to estate workers were included in the 32 demands brought forward by Sri Lanka workers' congress.
