Attempt to abduct doctor's efficient daughter in year 4 class in international school

An incident is reported yesterday (22) of a case where the father of a student in a leading international school in Kalutara and his accomplice were taken into custody for having planned to kidnap an eight year old doctor's daughter studying in the same school and also the doctor's wife. The arrest was made on a tip off received by police at the time everything was planned to launch the said kidnapping. It is understood that the motive behind the abduction was to demand a ransom and also that the said student was incidentally was one of the brightest students in the school and was
subjected to the highest awards at prize givings.

The person who planned the kidnapping was by profession a 'kapu mahatthaya' maintaining a devalaya, it is learned. A son of his too has studied in class 2 of the schoolgirl under reference and later the boy was shifted from the school and some rumours had floated around about the schoolgirl. It is the praise showered on this girl by other parents which actually was the reason to abduct the girl which was the motive behind all this. 

Though the said doctor's daughter has shown skills in many aspects and has secured several certificates and gifts at the prize giving in school while studying in year two while though the kapuva's child though clever has not been appreciated by the school. The kapuva having gone to the extent of inquiring about this has got involved in a conflict and he had removed his son from the school that year itself and admit the boy to another school with some resentment. Later having heard about the schoolgirl's skills increasing year by year; this created some jealousy in 'kapu mahatthaya'. At the same time the thought that if by kidnapping such a valuable child the doctor would not deter to give any sum of money. 

Under these circumstances his plan was to kidnap both this girl and her mother too and had thus had got together with his accomplice and claim a large sum of money. Dodangoda police say that it was revealed by kapuva's confession that in this instance the strategy of his had been to demand a ransom of Rs. hundred million by personifying himself as the police. 

When the two suspects were taken into custody the police were able to find gunpowder used for the preparation of bombs, some service thread and a large number of iron balls used for bicycles.The suspects had arranged a date for the kidnapping since the girl's doctor father is on a foreign tour these days. There further had been a plan to approach the doctor's house disguised as policemen and carry out the abduction there and later to detain them in a lonely house and then claim the ransom of 10 crores. It was also revealed by the arrested person that further plans were made that if in case the kidnapping attempt fails, to finish off both the doctor's wife and the daughter by setting off a bomb. 

When inspecting kapuva's mobile phone, some photos taken dressed in uniform as a police sergeant were found. Having got to know that the suspect was arrested, the main suspect's wife has burnt the police uniforms in the kiln and police were able to find parts of the clothing and ash. Dodangoda police inform that both suspects are being further interrogated under 48 hours detention orders.
