Manager who tried to make boss drink poison and  rob 18 lakhs worth gold items!

Police have taken steps to arrest on suspicion the manager of a jewellery shop in Homagama who had tried to make the proprietor of the shop drink poison and then rob Rs. eighteen lakhs worth jewellery. 

The referred to incident has taken place 8 months back in last January in 2019. During the month of last January alone the manager of the establishment has made three employees to rob jewellery items
on about eight occasions, it was revealed. This had come to be known when the proprietor of the shop had on 14th January, 2019 had inspected places where jewellery was kept. Though he has inquired about it from the manager, he has responded saying that he does not know anything about it. In this connection the owner has carried out an inspection of the inventory. Realising that the cat would be out of the bag and that he has to answer, had stayed back home on January 17th and waiting for a moment when the owner of the shop and a friend of his retires home and would be having dinner has mixed a poisonous liquid used to change the hue of jewellery with owner's glass of drinking water. 

Though this strategy was employed with the intention of killing the proprietor in order to cover up the jewellery robbery, the other person referred to previously has drunk the glass of water to which the poisonous liquid had been mixed. Subsequently he had become seriously sick in that instance and after being admitted to hospital has passed away. At the post-mortem conducted over this victim who died on admission to Homagama hospital, it was reported that the cause of death was a poisonous substance entering his body. 

On inquiries conducted about his death brought suspicion about the manager who happened to remain at home on that day as he had by then disappeared. This person who served as the manager of the shop was a 50 year old person who lived in Hatton and was taken into custody after search by police, and that was after 8 months. He has admitted of having attempted to kill his owner and has also revealed information about four persons who assisted him in this robbery of Rs. eighteen lakhs. Police then managed to apprehend three of them while jewellery stolen too were found, Homagama police headquarters say. Thus, these three persons suspected in connection with this robbery and taken into custody were residents of Piliyandala, Badula and Passara, police say. On interrogation conducted on that occasion it came to be known that they from time to time had on instructions of the manager had assisted him in stealing the said jewellery and that the jewellery was pawned. Pawn-receipts were found in the possession of the suspects, police say. As such, police say that they were able to retrieve 5 ladies' rings, 3 male rings, 8 gold necklaces, 5 gold ornaments, 2 gold bangles and 6 gold pendants pawned at outlets in Chetty Street. The value of gold items so found was about Rs. seventeen lakhs and forty thousand and that about 29 gold pounds were there. As suc, the suspects and production are to be produced before Homagama court.
