Iranian couple trying to make journey to France through bogus passports ... nabbed in Katunayaka

A young Iranian boy and young Iranian girl who tried to travel to France via Sri Lanka using fake French passports were arrested day before yesterday (22) evening and emigration and immigration department of Katunayaka airport have steps to expel them.

This 28 year old Iranian girl and 18 year old Iranian boy have arrived at Katunayaka airport via TK 730 Turkish Airlines from Istanbul city in Turkey day before yesterday the 22nd at 3 in the afternoon.
After entering this country to spend a few days here, had presented these French passports at two counters of emigration and immigration giving the impression that they are French nationals. On that occasion when officers had checked the passports with the computer system with them, it was found that they were listed in the red alert documents of interpol. This information was then promptly directed to international police information office in Colombo and in that instance it was revealed that the said passports were lost in some foreign country and the passports concerned were found and prepared in a fake manner thereafter.

Later when the passports were forwarded to border checkpoint unit in Katunayaka airport itself for further inquiries and it was confirmed that there was some similarity where these two individuals were concerned with the other two French passports. Under these circumstances it was proved that they had made an attempt to flee to France utilising these two passports. On this occasion airport emigration and immigration department aimed some questions at these two and subsequently the officers said that the Iranian girl was able to manipulate the language of French with great difficulty when she uttered the word "Fonse .." (appearing at the top of the passport) by making use of her ability of the French language to some degree.

Later emigration and immigration officers took action to delve into their bags too and in that instance it was possible to find genuine the boy's Iranian passport hidden there. On investigations conducted further it came to be known that it was these Iranian passports that they had used to arrive in Sri Lanka from Turkey. Since it was confirmed that these two had come to this country with the motive of going to France, their French passports were taken into the custody of officers of emigration and immigration of the airport. Consequently, airport emigration and immigration officers had taken action to deport the two Iranians back to Istanbul city in Turkey via TK 731 airliner arriving at Katunayaka airport.

Emigration and Immigration officers Messrs. P.S.C.P. Pathiraja and B.M. Gallage conducted further investigations under supervision and instructions  W.P.N. Weerasingha and M.W. Udaya Kumara who were chief emigration and immigration officers who were on duty that particular day.
