Wellampitiya officer in charge transferred -- copper employees once again to court
Employees of the copper factory belonging to bomber Inshaf Ahamad as having produced bombs required for the series of bombs for the recent bomb attacks and for having spied were taken into custody subsequently. However, two weeks after on the 6th they achieved freedom on bail rather easily from court ... which aroused a problematic situation as a result. A dialogue ensued that their is much evidence of a direct connection
in their activities for the bomb blasts and by getting bail in that manner much important information could thus go astray and that they even get the opportunity to destroy that evidence.
in their activities for the bomb blasts and by getting bail in that manner much important information could thus go astray and that they even get the opportunity to destroy that evidence.
Since this factory was situated along Avissawella Road in Wellampitiya, the responsibility of taking the suspects into custody and producing them to court rested on the officer in charge of Wellampitiya police. Even before the said suspects were arrested, as evidence was received that there were influences by various politicians and police officers ... a suspicion emerged that bail being given to these suspects amounts to some form of conspiracy. Thus, it was the said police officer in charge and judge in court.
Whatever the circumstances was, in response to criticisms aimed at the police officer in charge after bail was granted, as response to criticisms targeted at him, he had filed a petition with the judiciary commission saying that he was free from guilt and that the flaw is is the judgment given by court. Whatever it is, the National Police Commission conducted a separate inquiry in this respect and o further investigation what was revealed was that police officer in charge, P.S. Hewavitharana is to be held as being responsible for this granting of bail. As he had not produced the suspects in the proper manner to court under the terrorist act, it was deduced that the suspects had the opportunity of making an easy getaway. The attorney at law on the other hand had the easy opportunity to challenge the 'B' report of police.
Under the above circumstances the national police commission has yesterday taken steps to transfer Wellampitiya officer in charge to Galle. In the meantime, Mr. Priyantha Liyanage, Colombo additional magistrate issued summons that the 8 suspects serving the copper factory who are WANTED to be present in court next 27th.
