Separate statement from police  because of lie uttered by Piyal Nishantha across 'Rathu ira' that 11 army personnel died from Sainmardu confrontation

Because of a statement made by Alliance member of parliament and member of Pohottuwa, Mr. Piyal Nishantha who participated in the 'Rathu ira' LIVE programme broadcast over Swarnavahini channel, it created a situation which would disturb the public. The statement under reference was made around 10.10 in the night. In this connection, because of the conflictory situation which the whole country had recognised as a heated situation because of war-like situation that flared up in Saindamardu area, Amparai, this politician had on an emotional tone said that 11 soldiers of the army had died in the
progress and that valuable lives which fought to save the country were lost as a result. 

This above statement was far from the truth and on that occasion news director of Swarnavahini. Harindra who was conducting 'Rathu ira' programme exclaimed that the said information has still not been confirmed and asked Piyal to accept responsibility to that statement. He then responded in the positive. 

This is how Piyal Nishantha made the statement concerned: "By now we have had to face a very dangerous situation. That means ... I think that even by now this situation has become complicated to the extent that its progress cannot be stopped. By now, 11 soldiers have died within the hamlet of Sainamardu. 11 soldiers who came forward to rescue our beloved country which was a pool of blood ... a cemetery have thus died. This number too has added up to deaths in this incident. This number has added up to the number of deaths ... and with sections called the common folk and terrorists ... the death toll is even more". 

It is not a secret that because of this false information, a large number of people who were watching the channel and a big crowd who received messages may have become worried. Whatever it is, what police confirmed this morning was that there were no casualties of the security forces from this particular incident and that about 15 terrorists and members of their families had died. Under these circumstances, in order to announce that nobody from the security forces has lost his life and a special statement was released through police.
