President once more getting ready for another government revolution?

President Maithripala Sirisena faction is in the process of launching several strategies to revolutionarise the government once again before the Presidential Election which is to be held between 2019 November 9th and December 9th, it is understood.

One such strategy is to make a change in the government by showing a 113 majority by getting

together with the SLFP group and a UNP group who switched over to the UNP. In such an instance not only the two parliamentary members of Lanka Labour Congress of Arumugam Thondaman but several other MPs of Tamil National Alliance and the support of the Muslim Congress as well as the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress could be secured as pointed out to President by certain advisors.

A particular UNP minister has said that a group of UNPers had pledged their support to the President on the occasion when the Prime Minister was ousted last October 26th. The manner in which the President has this time too praised some ministers representing the UNP can be observed.

The other strategy of the President is to secure an interpretation by supreme court that the completion of President's period of tenure should be calculated from the date of May 15th, 2015 when the Speaker placed his signature for the 19th amendment. If such an interpretation is sanctioned, the four and a half year period when President is able to dissolve parliament which falls in March, 2020 takes effect before the tenureship of the President.
