Government has given 2 bungalows and a tea estate of 450 acres in Nuwara eliya to Arjun Aloysius on lease for a paltry Rs. 8000 per month!

An incident is reported in the Sunday Times newspaper where a tea estate in Kandepola in Nuwara eliya extending to 450 acres belonging to the Plantations Ministry has been given on lease in the year 2015 to Geoffrey Aloysius and his son Arjun Aloysius for a paltry monthly lease of Rs. 8000 for a period of 30 years.

7 months after the bond scam and after the August general election of 2015, it is the tea estate called Mahakudugala in Kandepola that has been leased out in this manner. Allegations are afloat that an
agreement has been signed by the government and Geoffrey Aloysius and his son Arjun Aloysius on September 26, 215 thus leasing out this estate extending to 450 acres for a monthly sum of Rs. 8,000 till the year 2045.

This tea estate belonging to Plantations Ministry has been previously given to Mathurata Plantation Company and it is understood that  Geoffrey Aloysius has this tea estate from that Company on lease. In order to sign a fresh lease agreement, a new Company has been established under the name Serendipity Plantations with Geoffrey Aloysius as the chairman. It is reported that there are two bungalows, a medical centre and a maternity home in addition to 19,000 very valuable trees in this land.

Chairman of Perpetual Treasuries, Mr. Geoffrey Aloysius was taken into custody last Monday by criminal investigation department over the bond scam.
