Beliatta Opposition leader who sustained gunshot injuries mysteriously ... passes away

Mr. Kapila Priyadarshana Amarakoon, UNP member and Opposition leader of Beliatta provincial council who was seriously injured after gunshot injuries while in his home last Wednesday has passed away this morning (22), it is reported. 

The MP has sustained injuries during the period 6.15 and 7.00 in the morning on Wednesday and has received gunshots on his right leg. At the time he has received the gunshots only his mother, father, the two children and a domestic female worker had been at home with doors and windows of the
house being open. A weapon for which is used with number twelve bullets and four live bullets were discovered by police officers under his bed in the room. Police also say that the weapon so discovered was one that was used for a long period of time. 

No evidence was found that anybody had shot the MP from outside; but that patches of blood were later detected in the garden and thus a mystery surrounds the incident. Police officers who conducted investigations say that the MP was found bleeding heavily from the leg. Though he was struck with these gunshots he had been admitted to Tangalle Basic hospital around 8.00 in the morning.   

Mr. Amarakoon (44) was a father of three children and was resident of Pallaththara area in Beliattha. There was no news to say that he had any family problems. He was a United National Party member of the Beliattha provincial council and he has been subjected to this gunshot attack at the time he was inside a room in his house. 

Though he was admitted to hospital, why police were not able to record a statement until his death, poses a question. Police investigations are underway and as to how the gun and bullets came to be under the MPs bed has become a question to them. Police have informed whether an outsider who came has killed him or whether it is a case of suicide or whether members of his family had done something is still in speculation.
