The New Zealand team which attacked the bowling in this match first accumulated 319 runs for 7 wickets. The Sri Lankan team which pursued that total were able to collect only 298 runs at the end of 46 overs and 2 balls, all out. 

Thisara Perera was able to equal Sri Lanka's super batting star Sanath Jayasuriya's previous record of 140 runs scored against the New Zealand team in a one-day match. Apart from that, the record for a Sri Lankan player scoring the biggest number of sixes in an innings has been secured by Thisara Perera on this occasion. Thus he eclipsed this feat by hitting 13 sixes in today's game and it was Sanath Jayasuriya who held that record by hitting 11 sixes. 

"Thisara Perera knocked a score today which is indeed incredible. I always believe that he is a player who wins matches. Likewise he brought us close to that winning target. As a team we are proud of him", captain of Sri Lankan team Laith Malinga said, expressing his ideas to the media.
