Yesterday (16) around 3 in the morning a gang of robbers who gained access to a 2 storied house has tied hands of the house owner and had proceeded to rob about Rs. 10 lakhs worth gold items in the house. This incident is reported from Kirimetiyana police division in Koswatta.

According to a complaint made by householders to Koswatta Police, the unit of police dogs from Chilaw division was brought and steps were taken to arrest the suspects. As suspected by police, as
some people had come here to renovate this house a few days back, they had been quite alert about household items in the home and places where home people remained and the robbers have subsequently committed this robbery. The housebreakers have entered the house by removing the grill in the window downstairs.

The media on questioning the house owner, this is what he said: "I, my wife and daughters were sleeping upstairs. Mother was sleeping downstairs. Early morning four people approached me with knives and daggers. They tied my arms behind my back and kept two persons near me. Subsequently my 10 year old daughter was held by her hands and threatened her saying that she will be killed if she did not tell the truth and they took her around the house and extracted various information ... taking gold items and other valuable things. They tried to lead me astray by saying that they had come to take revenge on me for having threatened one of them. No such threatening has ever taken place. They managed to find places where gold items, expensive watches and bank books in the house and afterwards beat a retreat. Fearing that my daughter would be troubled, I and my wife did not create any uproar". He further said that the wrist-watch belonging to him which valued approximately Rs. 2 lakhs was among the robbed articles. Koswatta Police are directing investigations; but so far nobody has been taken into custody as such.
