Rupavahini - Radio management ... turn 'hybrid'!
Though people praising President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa were elected for the management of National Rupavahini and Sri Lanka Radio Corporation after the change made on October 26th; the situation once again changed after appointment of Ranil for position of Prime Minister on December 16th.
On 19th, minister Mangala brought back the same previous administration as his first duty in office.
However, the President showed an interest in the Mahinda faction in preference to the Ranil faction and under such circumstances the President did not like to make that appointment. What he had said was not to change the 50 day administration.
Whatever it is, as a result of this contradiction, minister Mangala pointed out that the publicity given to government matters could alter in a political perspective and as a consequence he also pointed out internal issues that would crop up. Mangala has further said that under the UNP administration government media institutions would be directed in a manner that those will not be partial to anyone. However, the President has not immediately agreed with that idea.
What minister Mangala had later proposed was in that case if it is necessary that ideas of both parties for and against the government is to e publicised, representatives standing on behalf of the political standpoint, the President is free to appoint such representatives to the Rupavahini and Radio.
Finally President Maithripala Sirisena has consented to a representative each without taking over government media institutions. Accordingly, it is reported that President would direct names of his representatives and it is thus reported that new appointments will be made in a few more days' time. What internal sources say is that in that case it is probable that the chairman would be appointed from one party while the director general would be appointed from another party, ending in a sort of 'hybrid' form.
