Reasons for President's sizzling address ... and responses received

It was yesterday the 16th that Ranil Wickremasingha was once again made heir to the Prime Minister's chair after various battles were fought and was settled by court all of which flared up by appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa the Prime Minister all of a sudden under action of President Maithripala Sirisena on October 26th.

It was confirmed by the speech of Maithri that he posted Ranil in the seat of Prime Minister 'not with
a heart'. Political analysts point out that the process of events launched with Maithri heading operations misfiring in the end was released through his speech yesterday which was flavoured with the temper which welled up within him and the hurt sustained in the process. In the same way, the fear of a no confidence motion against the President was hidden in that address.

Whatever it is, what is significant in this case is the existence of the country. Just as it was in the case of Chandrika - Ranil misunderstanding during the period 2003 - 2004 when activities of the country twisted into a mess, if activities of the country would fall into a confused state in the next few months where the President - Prime Minister would be handling affairs of the country together ... there will be no stability in the country. Their unity will be the unity of the country as well.

Whatever it is, the Mahinda camp has already engaged in various propaganda campaigns by joining in with the media in view of an election victory for the next few months and in the meantime more powerful fictitious episodes and mud-slinging posters have begun to dawn since yesterday. In such circumstances this misunderstanding will become more aggravated and this certainly will not be something favourable to the country.

After discussions held with President yesterday, Deputy Leader of United National Party, Sajith Premadasa has provided a reply to this. "We should tread this path without getting involved in crises ... if there are crises, without going into single decisions ... should discuss and try to come to a settlement. Matters which President brought forward on that occasion are matters which were expressed reflecting his heart. We assimilated all that into our hearts. In the sameway ... we should tell you President most clearly that our honourable Prime Minister has not spoken about a no confidence motion against you ... nor is there any hope of doing something like that".

What member of parliament Kabeer Hashim said in this connection is this: "We will not engage in any activity against the law. We have brought about transparency, openness and Good Governance to this country. If there are any allegations ... prove them. We saw that the law of this country is in operation on a sound footing during the past few days".
