Transfer to Nihantha of CID who was engaged in several investigations during Rajapaksa regime!

Officer in charge of Organised Crime Investigation Unit, inspector-of-police Mr. Nishantha Silva who was responsible for arresting suspects linked to a number of killings and having carried out investigations in that respect during the Rajapaksa regime has been transferred with immediate effect for ordinary duties in Negombo division. Under these conditions some interference has been created in inquiries that he had carried out. The inspector-general of police has effected this decision on higher orders.

Incidentally Nishantha  handled police investigations about crimes such as the Lasantha
Wickramatunga murder, harassing journalist Kieth Noyar, harassing journalist Upali Tennakoon,  kidnapping journalist Namal Perera, kidnapping 11 youth in Colombo by a white van and making them disappear, and Navy Sampath connected to those incidents avoiding courts and taking chief of defence staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunawardena into custody and producing him in courts.

It was Mr. Nishantha Silva who conducted inquiries in the instance where  schoolgirl Vidya of Jaffna was raped and killed and after the suspects were identified he was even acclaimed by judge Illanchelian for his exploits. In the same way, this officer was highly appreciated for having successfully conducting investigations in the incident where a child was abducted in Mahawa area in the year 2014 and a ransom was demanded.

Parliament member of parliament, Mr. Harindra Fernando expressed ideas that present political influence could be identified at the background of this form of transfer. He further said that this action has been taken to save the criminals or offenders and that problems about inspectors-of-police would crop up.

"Nishantha Silva is a clever officer ... an officer who revealed much information about several crimes. Police is now under the Defence Ministry. Isn't inspector-general of police ashamed for bowing down to orders against law and effecting a transfer to this officer? Was the government taken to transfer accomplished police officers? It is with the motive of throwing these things under the carpet that they want to cling on this way!" the MP said.
