Political sources have reported that today or in the next 48 hours there is a n imminent possibility that parliament will be dissolved. Gazette notifications have already been released to the effect that the Government Press, the Police Department and the National Media Centre are to come under purview of the Defence Ministry which is under the President. What MP Mr. Harsha de Silva has pointed out is that something like this cannot be exercised according to the 19th amendment and for such a purpose a 2/3rd majority is required as stated in the 19th amendment, article 17 (1). However, what Sarath N. Silva former Chief Justice has said was that such action can be taken when parliamentary sessions have come to a close, according to President's powers.
