"After judgement on 7th ... Karu can even secure President's post"
Member of parliament Vajira Abeywardena says that if by some chance Chief Justice accepts that the country is politically on an unstable footing ... the constitution contains provisions which even permits the Speaker to assume the position of Presidentship.
The parliamentarian expressed this idea at a media briefing held yesterday in this connection mentioning that if there is a state of instability in the country ... under article 37 (2) of the governing
constitution the Speaker is in a position to write to Chief Justice in that respect and in that case the position of President would be secured by Speaker. The Chief Justice will inquire into the reasons why the country has fallen into unstabilised state of affairs and if found that the governing constitution has been violated with motivation ... the member of parliamentarian mentioned here it would be decided upon according to the judgement of Supreme Court on next 7th.
