Vigneshwaran puts nameboards in North ... first in Tamil, resulting in Sinhala words being messed up!

According to a proposal of Chef Minister of North Provincial Council, nameboards of all government institutions and roads are by now being changed from the order of Sinhala, Tamil, English to Tamil, Sinhala and English instead. Though a debate has surfaced with regard to this action; though in a practical sense it could be important because it is a region inhabited by a majority of Tamil people, a distorted situation cropping up as a consequence is problematic.

The reason for this is that those who have set those names have used the suitable Sinhala names
directly as a Tamil translation and some names have been interpreted in a humorous manner. As such, the National Savings Bank is identified as 'JathikaIdurum Bank' while Sri Lanka Electricity Board has been translated as ' Ceylon Electricity Board', Mohandiram Road as 'Mondipulala Road', Christian Affairs Department as 'Charsthath Administration Department and Wildlife Department as 'Dilge Life Conservation Department'.

Installing of most nameboards showing rural names and locations these days in the North have already commenced and setting up of nameboards have been carried out by Tamil officers and since they do not possess a proper knowledge of Sinhala, such a problematic situation has taken place. Sinhalse public has expressed their regrets about this distortion.
