Woman police constable caught in fire inside house ... and dies

An incident was reported today of a 23 year old woman police constable attached to the Panadura Walana Anti Vice Unit mysteriously dying inside her own home in Jugulla, Hali Ela ... caught in a fire.

The deceased has come home after getting leave from work and had attended an almsgiving after which she had taken a food parcel from there and had gone home and subsequently the fire in that house was reported, neighbours have testified. It is still not confirmed whether this is a case of

suicide or not. Because of this fire, she had died within the house, Hali Ela police say.

The victim in this instance is Chandima Priyadarshani Chandrasekera. Neighbours who noticed that a fire was breaking inside the said house had instantly inquired about it; however she had burned to death by then, it was learned. The ceiling of the house as well as items in the house caught in the fire were damaged. Police have started investigations on the matter.
