because of conflict in Wellawatta temple!

A Buddha statue belonging to the Wellawatta Sri Upananda Buddist Centre was found on Friday (14) having been taken somewhere close to the beach nearby, Bambalapitiya police say.

A resident monk there had informed police that from 12th night the Buddha statue under reference has been displaced. the said Buddha statue has been installed after a group of people who had tried to

forcibly acquire a land belonging to Sri Upananda Buddhist Centre, subsequent to which a complaint was made to police after which they were ousted from that place.

This Buddhist statue which happened to weigh over a hundred kilos had been taken away by over ten people from where it was placed and had been dumped on the sea beach, police suspect. A police officer remarked that Buddhists and even non Buddhists who gathered on the beach there had volunteered to bring back the Buddha statue to the police station. Bambalapitiya police are conducting further investigations.
