True story of True story of Bharatha Rathna being awarded to Mahinda Rajapaksa
The news that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's name has been proposed for the award of Bharatha Rathna as published across Indian media is now scattered in the social media. It has been proposed that this award which is the most prestigious award which is being handed over by India's President to Mahinda Rajapaksa for having abolished war from Sri Lankan soil and for creating a peaceful environment, those reports say.
Whatever it is, though this piece of information was published in Sri Lankan media, on an investigation made by us it was not possible to detect any such explanation in the Indian media. What
is in fact published in local media saying that such news is published in the Indian media is actually a Twitter message posted by Subramaniam inferring such an idea.

Subramaniam Swamy in fact is an Indian politician who has had cordial relationships with Mahinda Rajapaksa during the latter's tenure of rule and because of that he even attended the funeral of Mahinda's brother Chandra Rajapaksa, coming all the way from India. He had invited Mahinda Rajapaksa to address a rally expected to be held next month. Subramaniam was someone who visited Sri Lanka in the year 2014 during Mahinda's regime and met Mahinda, Gotabhaya and the crowd. He is an adversary of Prabhakaran and is a person who constantly criticises Indian politicians who express ideas supporting Tiger supporters at present.
Though Subramaniam Swamy proposed in the year 2014 that Mahinda should be bestowed the Bharatha Rathna award, that award was claimed in the year 2014 by Indians Sachin Tendulkar and Madan Mohan Malavia. Subsequently it was claimed in 2015 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpai who passed away. Since then the said award has still not been given to anybody.
After meeting Mahinda at the funeral house, though Subramaniam Swamy brought forward this suggestion once again in 2015; it simply was a political statement of one solitary person. The name of Karunanidi who passed away recently was nominated for the Bharatha Rathna award by the DMK party and in the process Subramaniam Swamy who represents the BJP party has proposed Mahinda's name, expressing opposing ideas to it which actually is a whimsical reaction in the field of Indian politics.
It was Subramaniam Swamy who launched a statement in the wake of the death of Sri Devi a few months prior to this that her husband is to be suspected, thus winning attention of the media. Subramaniam Swamy who happens to be a member of parliament makes this proposal to Prime Minister Modi and if Modi chooses Mahinda for it among all other names and grants his approval and then goes on to inform Ram Nath Kovind that Mahinda is the better favourite ... then this award could be clinched.
The Bharatha Rathna award has been bestowed on 45 individuals from 1954 onwards on a number of occasions while this award has been given to non-Indians, only in two instances in history and that was to Mother Theresa in 1980 and Nelson Mandela in 1990.
