"I was suspicious ... my calls were not being responded to" -- confession of Priyani's husband
After singer Priyani Jayasingha who was most unluckily murdered, her husband was taken into custody and he had admitted guilty to the act of killing her by stabbing her a scissor. Prabhan Rasika Eetn (52) who is employed as a helper at a cushion firm. Following is his confession to police:
"I had a deep suspicion about my wife. To a large extent she did not care to listen to what I said. On certain occasions she would go to Anuradhapura saying she is going for meditation. After going there
like that she used to spend several days there. However much I would call her on her mobile, she would not respond. Because of that I had a great suspicion about her.
My wife had filed action at Panadura courts against me saying that I was a worry for her. After that I was prohibited from going home for a period of one year. That prohibition ended last month. Then a few days before I went home. After going there like that I told her that we'll live peacefully. When living like that I began to develop a suspicion about her again. She once again began to tell a story about going to that aramaya and left like that. She wouldn't care even if I speak to her. I didn't like the way she behaved at all. She would always seen engaged in her mobile phone. She would answer whatever call she gets. When I speak ... she would not care. It was after that that I decided to murder her.
I kept a sharpened part of a scissor and had it well-sharpened and hid in a place. Last Sunday (08) son went out at about 8 in the night. Only daughter-in-law was there in the hall. Then after that I went to the room where wife was and spoke to her. Even then she showed me a blind-eye. I don't know what happened to me that moment. With the temper that welled up within me I kept on stabbing her with that part of the scissor on her neck, abdomen, chest and head region. I saw her shouting in pain on the bed. Then after that I scooted away from home.
Though my daughter-in-law heard her screaming while watching TV at that time, she had been scared to approach that room and had phoned her husband, my youngest son, and informed about this incident. My son who had come home in about 5 minutes' time had seen his mother fallen with injuries and and that the baby lying close to the dead body, as peaceful as ever.
On that occasion they had taken steps to take the baby away and had notified the police and also to rush Priyani to hospital. Whatever it is, though she was taken to hospital, Priyani had passed away because of the scissor-attack aimed at eight points in her body".
Panadura Additional Magistrate Mrs. Sunethra Fernando who inspected the place of murder and the dead body of the singer ordered that the post-mortem be carried out and to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect-husband who committed the murder with a part of a scissor and fled the scene was taken into custody the following day. After being produced before Panadura courts, he was ordered to be remanded till the 23rd of this month by Magistrate Mr. Chandima Liyanage.
