House for children of Sergeant Hemachandra's family ... from Judge Kanchelian
Some well-wishers of the Judge of Jaffna Supreme Court Mr. Maniccavasagar Ilannchelian have erected a house for the wife and children of deceased police constable Mr. Sunil Hemachandra who performed his duty as the personal security guard of the judge, under a request of the Judge.
Seargent Mr. Sunil Hemachandra had to give his life when gun-shots were fired targetting Mr.
Ilanchelian in Nallur area, Jaffna on July 22nd, 2017 when the sergeant became the victim of those gun-shots. On the very day that sergeant Sunil Hemachandra died, the responsibility of his two children were undertaken by this judge of the supreme court coming down on his knees in the presence of the the wife of deceased sergeant, sobbing bitterly.
The partially completed house of Sergeant Hemachandra in Kumarakatuwa, Chilaw was finished by spending Rs. twenty lakhs by friends of the supreme court judge on the occasion of finishing one year on the twentieth of next month. Contemporary colleagues of Mr. Ilanchelian when he was schooling at St. John's College in Jaffna have donated monies from countries such as England, Germany, America and Canada. As it is necessary that the one year pinkama after the demise of sergeant Sunil Hemachandra has to be carried out, the said house has been handed over to sergeant Hemachandra's wife and two children already.
