Less traffic in Colombo also

It is evident that the tense environment which prevailed in Kandy has by now eased to a large extent by 9 in the morning today. There were no serious incidents reported yesterday.

The curfew imposed in Kandy this morning (09) was lifted at 6; however, even by dawn the city has taken a desolate look, it is reported. In
the process it was apparent yesterday and today that the traffic congestion which was usually seen not only in Kandy but in Colombo and similar towns around was conspicuous by its absence somewhat. The reason for this it was understood was at a time the prevailing restlessness was felt by people in the whole island, most people have kept away from engaging in unnecessary journeys and had thus made it a point to travel in vehicles. Though people trekked to the city to secure their food items after curfew was lifted, many business places were closed and public coming to the city was observed at a slower rate. It is reported that police and the tri-forces are keeping alert for security purposes. Published below is a collection of photographs reported by AP media in connection with incidents in Kandy.
