The Zimbabwe army took over administration of that country yesterday. The army commander announced over national television that President Robert Mugabe who remained in power from 1980 onwards for a period of 37 years by bestowing utmost pressure on the public is presently in safe custody. President Jacob Zuma of the adjoining country has stated that President Mugabe is under house arrest.
President Zuma has given a telephone call to Zimbabwe President Mugabe in the morning. "President
Mugabe is not in a position to go out from the house. He is cordoned inside the house. Whatever it is he is all right", it is stated in South African government press release. Jacob Zuma has announced that he would be taking measures to send a special team of representatives to discuss matters concerning the crisis that has cropped up. The deputy President of Zimbabwe, Emerson Minangwa is behind the activity of Zimbabwe army taking power into their hands, foreign news report. He was expelled from power by Mugabe a short period before this as a result of a battle for power. It is understood that later he had twisted the army towards his opinion and had thus crushed Mugabe's administration.
On a day last month, Grace the wife of President Mugabe had made an accusation that deputy President Emerson was involved in the process of launching a coup and since deputy President Emerson was ousted from that position, is reported as showing signs of political revolution of being appointed as ruler of that country instead of Robert Mugabe and she is an aged woman of 93 years. Whatever it is, the army all of a sudden had turned the the opposite and had said that if the offenders are to be punished, the government has to be toppled.
Making an announcement across the state television, major general Siuziso Meyo of the supplies division of Zimbabwe army has mentioned that an operation was launched of implementing law against the offenders and that the President is in safe hands. He had also notified the Zimbabwe army that this in no way is a coup of the army. The army which has taken government institutions of Zimbabwe into their hands has mentioned that this was not an army coup and that this was an operation launched for the purpose of meting out punishment for offenders rallying round the President. It was reported that state institutions, the parliament and courts situated in Central Harare are full of armoured vehicles and soldiers at its access points.
The major general has said, "We'd take the people engaging in criminal activities rocking around the President. After our operations is over, we expect everything to come back to normal", he had further added. No news has been reported so far in the media of that country either about Zimbabwe's President Mugabe or the President's wife Grace who in fact is in anticipation of coming into power after him.
