Kidz World owner committed suicide because of being pressed by debts? or domestic problems?
The person who committed suicide day-before-yesterday (13) in a house in Malabe, Athurugiriya by hanging on a hook of an electric fan was a millionaire businessman by the name of Ranga Sanjeewa Hettiappuhamy (38), it has been identified.
He was the owner of the popular chain of shops known as Kidz World for selling baby products in
many a city in Sri Lanka. The incident of committing suicide in this manner has become a matter of great surprise to both members of his family as well as employees at his establishment. He had been living alone in the house where he had committed suicide while his wife and only child had been living in a separate house in Talahena area.
Deceased Ranga had been living in both houses alternately. The police have uncovered information that he has had some problems connected to his family and it is a point of interest to note that even this place where he was residing was unknown to his wife until his death. She has explained to the police saying that she is surprised about this death and that she suspects as to with whom the deceased had lived with in that house.
Deceased Ranga had utilised a hook used for the electric fan in a room of that house. He had removed the electric fan in that room and after keeping it aside on the floor had then hanged himself from a rope tied to that hook. It was the house owners who rented out the house to him who actually had first come to know about his death. When the house owner together with members of his family had come over to collect the rent of the house which was at Kahanthota Road, Alubowaththa in Athurugiriya day-before-yesterday (13) night, he had found that the doors were locked up, which then had aroused his suspicion. Later after opening up the locks he had seen this businessman had hanged himself and died after removing the electric fan of a room and having laid it down on the floor had then tied a rope to its base. It was also reported that he had left a letter behind to the effect that he unable to bear the debts he was burdened with, it was reported.
The deceased businessman was the owner of several trading concerns supplying baby products. He had rented out this house at a rent of Rs. 75000 for a period of 3 months and had been living all alone there. It is still not clear whether he had felt that he could no longer stay in that house on the date when the 3 months elapses and not being able to go to the house of his wife and thus committed suicide in this manner or whether he did so for some other reason. The police expect to interrogate his wife who says that she was not aware that her husband had secured a house like this until his death.
