Hides sugar percentage of Milo -- President says on Diabetes Day
President Maithripala Sirisena has accused Nestle Company for marketing Milo which is a chocolate-mixed drink as comprising an excess content of sugar in it and for not even displaying
the sugar values on the pack.
The President remarked that he came to know that there was 15 percent sugar content in this product even at the time he was the Health Minister and that it is now over 16.5 and though sugar has been quoted in the contents of ingredients found inside the carton, he pointed out that sugar has been eliminated from the percentage stated in the ingredients. He remarked that the tax alone is not sufficient in this connection and that rules and regulations should be implemented in relation to sugar. The President highlighted this by focusing attention on sugar which is a main factor which preys on the public of this country inviting diabetes, participating at a programme held on behalf of Diabetes Day.
