New Generation performer Dasun Nishantha has committed suicide at a boarding-place in Pelenwatta area in Pannipitiya yesterday. He had been staying in that boarding-house with some others who were connected to the tele-field and when the others set off for work yesterday he had remained there saying that he was feeling sick. Though a certain time

period had been allocated to him last morning for shooting of a teledrama, he had given a phone call to them and had said that he was suffering from a fever and a strong headache and had asked permission for that shooting to be postponed for the following day.

Having waited till his friends left the place, he had hanged himself on the fan in the room and had thus taken his life. Prior to his death he had videoed his own death by making use of his mobile phone by focusing it towards where he was, and had activated the action necessary, police said. At the same time a letter was found which said that nobody need be responsible for his death and that he is unable to bear up the change observed in his fiancee.

The police who inspected videos of his mobile phone depicted there of the actor putting on the knot on the fan and then putting the noose at the other end had been engaged in contemplation for 30 seconds and subsequently had jumped down so that the noose would would get tightened round his neck. However, on the first attempt he had collapsed on the floor and had not been successful. But on the second attempt he had once again put the noose and had thus finished his task successfully ending up committing suicide. Nobody was aware of it until some hours elapsed after his death.

Another actor who happened to come to Pannipitiya area for a stint in shooting had come over to his boarding to meet him and since the door of the boarding-house was found closed locked up, he had opened a window on suspicion to see that his friend had fallen down under the fan. The incident of death was revealed only when this was informed to police.

Dasun Nishan who made Thihariya in Nittambuwa his homeplace was just 29 years of age when he died. Though he had passed his Advanced Level in Biology, he had later shown a liking towards the subject of Information Technology and had even secured his degree in BIT from Colombo University and had then embarked on a profession as a Software Engineer. After that he had displayed a desire for modelling and had for sometime been involved in it after which he had bade goodbye to that field of interest and finally launched himself on the field of teledrama. At the time of his death he was connected to 13 teledramas, 1 film and 1 stage show.

He was the eldest born to an affluent family and had a younger brother too. Both his father and mother were Civil Engineers and for a period of time they had lived in Canada. After his death was informed, the deceased's mother had come from Nittambuwa to see her son and the teacher who is supposed to have been engaged to him came to see him with tears in her eyes.It was only she and the deceased who know the specific reason why he committed suicide. It could be understood that a misunderstanding or an instance of going for another was the result of this tragic ending.

After the police identified the body, action was taken to keep the body in the mortuary at Homagama Hospital and after the postmortem was conducted, the dead body would be removed to the Kanthota Road house in front of courts in Thihariya, Nittambuwa. The final rites will be performed in Nittambuwa.
