CCTV evidence from kiosk opposite reveals that nobody had come to kill Thepal Nona

Investigations conducted so far confirm that the Postmistress of Kurundugaha Hethepma Post Office had swallowed poison and had set herself on fire and subsequently had died from the fire which resulted as a consequence.

CCTV video clips at the kiosk opposite her post office were able to provide strong evidence in police investigations which probed the possibility whether her death which occured in that manner was the
result of a third party coming into the scene. On the day of her death the said video clip confirms how the postmistress has got down from the three-wheeler she had arrived in at the post office early that morning and on enering the premises had closed the door of the post office. The video-recordings show how she subsequently walks in and then closes the door and that after a short while later wafts of smoke were noticed goiny up.

Whatever it is, from the moment she closes the door with the fire spreading forth, it does not indicate any signs of a person entering the premises, the video clips confirm, police say. There is no other alternative other than that particular door to enter that place as such; therefore there is no reason to suspect any outside party over her death, police say.

Mrs. Kanchanamala de Silva who was the recipient of the Best Postmistress Award in the whole island thus breathed her last from this fire. She may have committed suicide over a personal issue, police suspect. The police mention that from poisonous substances found in her body and the vial of poison detected at the place go to confirm the chemical affinity between the two elements while the kerosene oil lamp at the post office made use of to seal parcels had been utilised by her to ignite the fire. The final rites of the deceased postmistress were conducted yesterday 31st evening. Elpitiya Police conduct further inquiries about the incident.
