Elder brother who came from Singapore becomes a prey to the train together with younger brother too while taking selfies on Kollupitiya railway track!

Two brothers of the same family who wanted to take a selfie at a rail-track in Kollupitiya area unfortunately ended up by being a prey to an oncoming train. They had wanted to take selfies with the sea in the background and the camera-phone was in the hands of the 25 year old elder brother while the 12 year old younger brother was stationed by his side, it was understood. These deaths had taken place at a time when others of their family
were watching them in action ... possibly because of the noise of the ocean and voices of those of their shouting had not fallen on their ears.

The elder boy who died is employed in Singapore and hails from Anuradhapura. It was only yesterday that he had come to the island for a holiday. Members of his family had come to Katunayaka in a van to escort him home and had even made a pleasure trip around Colombo. After treading the sea waters on the shore for a short time they had afterwards moved towards Kollupitiya Railway Station. It was after that this tragic moment dawned. The victims were Theekshana Lakshan Ranaweera (12) the younger brother and Sashi Ranaweera (25) the elder brother.

Members of the family have given evidence saying that they saw how the train was approaching close and that though they had shouted out about the impending danger the two brothers had not heard their shouts. It was reported that the elder brother was keen to see his 12 year old younger brother and for that very reason in order to make him happy he had gone around various locations in Colombo and clicked selfies. Whatever it is, the elder brother who was in a hurry combined with the fatigue experienced on the flight may have lost concentration at that particular moment and thus had become a prey to the train, members of the family say. Kollupitiya Police are conducting further inquiries.
