Student with weak eyesight wrote for exam in Galle with normal pen just like others
According to Advanced Level exam results, the effort taken by student Thanushi Mallikaarachchi who managed to secure First Place in the Arts stream from Galle District is indeed extremely commendable. She was blind in one eye and she could see with the other eye, only slightly. However she had made maximum use of her minimum sight. It is not by using the Braille system that she used to answer the exam; but
by using the common method used by other students.
Thanushi Mallikaarachchi who is supposed to be exceptionally clever for studying languages is a student who can study Sinhala, Tamil, English, French and Spanish as well. Her Advanced Level subjects were English Literature, French Language and Political Science and after appearing for the Southlands College examination in Galle was the First in the Arts stream by securing A passes for all those 3 subjects.
18 year old Thanushi lives in Heenpendula area in Galle. She has lost her right eye by birth can see with her left eye only 15%, doctors have told her. Thanushi who was engaged in her Advanced Level activities has said that her dedication contributed towards her success. The support she has received from her school and home as well has contributed to a large extent in this context. Thanushi's father serves in a private institution in Colombo and lives together with her mother and sister. She has already proved that physical shortcomings and obstacles are no hindrance if one works according to a target.
