Matthews comes home because of wife's conception
Captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket team Angelo Matthews was subjected to a leg injury during the 2nd Twenty-Twenty match played against South Africa and also because he is getting ready for fatherhood he has decided to come back to Sri Lanka half way through.
Matthews is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka today (24) and on behalf of his absence Upul Tharanga and Kusal Janith Perera is suggested to fill the
void created on this occasion. Angelo Matthews' wife is expected to give birth to their first baby in a few more days.
Even before he left for South Africa he had made a request from Sri Lanka Cricket Board to come home for a short holiday in the relevant period concerned. Whatever it is, Matthews on account of the injured condition he sustained on his leg in the match played day-before-yesterday and the injury is understood to take a period of 2 to 3 weeks to cure and in view of becoming a father, Matthews has resolved to come back to Sri Lanka rather early. In the meantime Dhanushka Gunatilleka and Nuwan Pradeep has returned to Sri Lanka because of injury while Geoffrey Vandersay has already been dispatched to South Africa.
