Lester -- Sumithra couple faced with housing problem
Dr. Lester James Pieris aged 98 years and Sumithra Pieris couple devoted to the cinema have been living for a span of 47 years in a rented out house at Dickman's Road, Colombo and are now faced with a grave problem on their shoulders because the owners of the house have sold the house and property without informing them.
The true owner has not made the couple aware of this transaction and
they had actually come to know about this only when a letter by a legal firm was delivered to their address. The Mrs. Sumithra Pieris couple had been paying the due rent to the owners and had been living there without causing any worry to others and even certain renovations had been attended to by them at their own expense and therefore has pointed out that subjecting them to inconvenience in this manner is clear injustice.
When inquiring further, this property has been sold to a Company by the name of SoloCity as stated in the letter received and if the rent is to be paid further, to settle such transactions with that Company. Since the said Company would no longer provide permission for the couple to occupy this house, if the Company was to utilise the premises for a business purpose, the Pieris couple would be stranded, it is reported.
Whatever it is, if only they were aware of an issue of this nature in advance, Mrs. Pieris would not have disposed of the house belonging to her in Kotte, she mentions. Mrs. Pieris points out that this situation has not reached the ears of Mr. Lester James Pieris and that if he comes to know about it, according to his age he may be reduced to a state of shock and become a mental patient.
