Husband passes away when wife's cortege leaves home

A rare incident where an aged couple living together in a strong bond of love left this world forever as predestined in samsara  is reported from Nawana, Nikaweratiya.

After the husband's 81 year old wife died of a heart attack and later when her body was taken out of the house the 83 year old husband unable to bear the sorrow had himself passed away that

moment, thus portraying the great bond of love which existed between the two. The deceased couple Mr. W.N.R. Mudiyanse (83) and H.M. Dingiri Amma (81) had a total of 29 children and grandchildren inclusive. They had 5 daughters and 4 sons and 2 of the sons were in police service.

This is what one son had to say about the incident: "It's a grave sorrow to all of us when both our father and mother leaves us at the same time. The two of them are chief donors of the temple and lived a righteous life. Our mother passing away would have been something which father could not bear. On the day our mother suffered the heart attack he had stroked mother's head and blessed her. Then, as soon as mother's body was taken out of the gate he lied down on the bed and called mother saying 'upaasakamme' and closed his eyes forever. All nine of us find it difficult to bear this up. But that may have been the way they had been destined in samsara".
