House that catches fire automatically in Pallebedda!

An uproar has taken place because of an incident where a house in Galpaya area in Pallebedda automatically goes up in fire.

Householders living in this house have said that because of this situation an almirah and furniture including documents in the house have gone up in flames and destroyed. This incident has taken

place in the house of a landed proprietor named Mr. Dayaratna of the area.

This is what he says about it: "At about 5 in the evening last 14th the fire originated in the coppara hut. We managed to extinguish the fire by water. After a short while the almirah inside the house went up in flames. That also was extinguished with water. We came out of the house and we were in fright ... there wasn't anybody in the house. The best part of it is that a ire had sprung up from under a table. Things like this happened on both the 14th and the 15th. Our daughter took the documents and had kept them on top of an almirah in the neighbouring house ... and to see after that, that also has caught fire. What people in the area say is that this happens because of a supernatural force. However, Psychologist of the Colombo Medical Faculty Mr. Navin Ranwella expressed his ideas saying that this definitely is a human element at work. That a case of this sort cannot happen unless somebody sets fire on purpose.
