10 lives lost from Chavakachcheri bus - van accident!
10 lives were lost while 21 individuals were injured in the fatal bus -- van accident which took place this afternoon about 1 in Chavakachcheri - Misalai area, Jaffna. It is of special importance to note that all 10 people who died in the van had been on their way on a pilgrimage to Nagadeepa. They were residents of Millamiya - Madampe, it was reported.
This accident has taken place either because the driver of the van had fallen asleep or for some other reason it had been turned towards the other side of the road when the collision had occured with a Jaffna -- Vavuniya CTB bus which was travelling at some speed and had struck head on. The van
was reduced to bits and pieces on the rapidity of the travelling bus and in the process the front part of the van had ebbed in from the front almost by half and had got sunk inside. Because of this everybody who travelled in the van had got stuck inside and having sustained severe injuries with 10 people had died in the process.

Great strife was exerted in operations to get those injured and corpses out from where they were, it was reported. 2 persons who were seriously wounded are being treated at the intensive care unit of Jaffna Hospital while 21 persons including those travelling in the bus are undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
