Shooting down two persons standing near Ankumbura

As a result of gun fire aimed at two individuals standing near a road in Bebilagolla area, Ankumbura, Kandy recently one person had died and the other has been critically injured. The shots had been fired at both from a passing motor car.

A member of an armed gang suspected to have been involved in the shooting had been arrested by

the police with the support of people in the area in Kabalgasthenna about 4 kilometers away from the location where the victims were shot. The police have recovered a T56 weapon alleged to have been used in the shooting by the suspect together with a round of 20 bullets. The suspect concerned is one 30 year old Mohamed Ali who is a resident of Mahaiyawa, Kandy. Courts has granted permission to retain the two suspects taken into custody and to be interrogated. Of the two persons one of whom has died and the other severely injured too are Muslims and it has been revealed that the incident is due to a business dispute.
