A neighbourly youth  in the locality who had come to No. 74, Mangala Mawatha, Hokandara South house of Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansha early last morning had been found dead. This young man, Lahiru Janith Dissanayaka, aged 24 years who is supposed to be a friend of Wimal's son Vibhudi Vishvajith was
taken to Sri Jayawardene Hospital by Wimal's wife yesterday (26) and it is understood that he was already dead by that time. The deceased Lahiru and Wimal's son Vibhuthi had been friends for quite some time and on many an occasion he had stayed the night in this house, it was reported.

This is what Sashi Weerawansha had revealed to the media in this connection: "He came last night also. He came and then left and after having had dinner and asked 'aunty ... then shall I go?' His eyes were swollen and when I asked 'what has happened puthe',  he said he had broken rest. After that everyone bowed down to me and retreated upstairs. They had slept after watching a movie ... I knew only in the morning. 

 After that my son came running and said, 'amma Lahiru aiya is not getting up'. Then I said, 'are you mad ... how can that happen!' He then said, 'no amma ... look, it's not a joke'. I then said, 'Rupika come, they say that putha is not getting up'. Then when Rupika came I ran upstairs with Rupika and then Rupika she started crying saying, 'aney ... thaththa also died like that puthe. Something has happened to my child ... this is the way that this fellow's father also died. Let's take him ... let's take him'. Because there wasn't a driver, it was I who took him to hospital in the vehicle". 

This is what the dead youth's mother spoke about the death. "Can't say, it's only from the police-mortem that decides what happened to my child. My child left home quite alright. That's all that I can say. Now what happened is that only I lost my child".

Wimal and his home-folk lived in house No. 74 while this young man lived in house No. 71. During these few hours contradictory information connected to this death was reported and what one such report said was that he was a watcher at Wimal Weerawansha's house. What was said in another report was that he is a hotel employee. One report says that the time when his death came to be known was 9 in the morning while another report states that it was 1 in the afternoon. Various opinions too have been expressed over the manner in which he died and in another report it is said that he had sustained injuries while the cause of death is mentioned as a heart attack in a website belonging to Wimal Weerawansha. It also states that Mr. Wimal Weerawansha had been out of Colombo to attend a certain matter and that he had not returned home. The reason for the death of the youth would be revealed after the autopsy to be conducted today.

Talangama Police are conducting further investigations on this matter and because of this incident the house concerned has also been subjected to police inspection. The information forwarded to the media by Sashi Veerawansha in relation to the incident, from below ​
