Hambantota youth into police custody .... from temple

The young man living in Hambantota, Bandagiriya area about whom suspicions were conjectured as having been made to disappear by the police, thus committing a criminal offence or else had scooted away from police custody has been ultimately found
while taking refuge in a temple.

This youth, G.G. Gayashan had gone into hiding in a temple in Dikwella area for the fear that he would be pursued by the police and has not even divulged about it to his home. A special operations had been launched under an Assistant Superintendent of Police in connection with the boy's disappearance and in the meantime 5 police officers including Hambantota Police Officer-in-Charge, P.M. Jayaratna were transferred on a temporary basis and subsequently they had been suspended from their duties.

It was also reported of a suspicious incident of the youth's name being removed from the police log book. In this connection a special survey was conducted by the Police Commission too. The youth concerned had said that he wanted to go to the toilet and had thus made use of an opportunity given by the police and thus run away from their grasp. In this manner he had been to a vihara in Dikwella, Matara on which occasion the incumbent of the temple had taken measures to notify the police about this. Later on he had handed over the boy to the police. By now he is under police custody.

On a complaint received in connection with an incident of a theft of paddy, 3 youth from Hambantota Bandagiriya area were arrested last 5th and the disappearance of this 20 year old young boy named Gayashan ended in creating a big sensation.
