Sri Lanka on top among strong alcohol consumption countries
In terms of latest statistics of consumption of strong alcoholic beverages Sri Lanka has been placed on top.This has been revealed by the Director of Alcohol prevention unit and President’s staff formative force Dr Saman
Kumara Kithalawarchchi.
It is reported that from statistics revealed from the President’s staff formative force during a survey carried out during the past five years more than one hundred thousand deaths have been reported of persons directly addicted to smoking.
Statistics from excise department have revealed that in the year 2015 alone Sri Lankans have spent over rupees eleven thousand billion on purchase of alcoholic products. In the same year 2015or purchasing of tobacco products Sri Lankans have spent over rupees billion four hundred. These figures were disclosed by Dr Saman Kumara Kithalawarachchi.
In the year 2015 alone about a sum of rupees billion twelve thousand have been spent by Sri Lankans. They have consumed for that year alcohol litres between fifteen to twenty per person it has been disclosed. It has also been disclosed that Sri Lanka has been placed within the ten countries where the consumption of alcohol among individuals is highest.
It has also been reported that thirty five percent of males consume alcohol, while there is a tendency in the rural and urban areas to promote women also to consume alcohol.
