Deputy Minister Thevarapperuma arrested
Mothers of 9 children who tried to admit their children forcibly to Meegahatenna Vidyalaya, Matugama and who were participants of an unlawful act in this connection were arrested by the police and remanded until the 8th of this month, the court instructed.
In the meantime Deputy Minister Palitha Thevarapperuma who had previously put up an exhibition by staging an act of fasting right from the start and was later moved for treatment at Nawaloka Hospital, Colombo when the parents were taken into custody had escaped from hospital without
informing the hospital authorities as soon as he came to know of this and had gone to the police to enquire about the welfare of his supporters.
In the process, when the police were on the lookout for others connected to the incident had then unexpectedly met the Deputy Minister within the police quarters itself and as a result the police officers had taken steps to arrest him. Further, 2 others who were involved in the incident concerned too were taken into police custody together with the Deputy Minister. After being produced in courts, the Minister including the other two were remanded till the 7th of this month.
